Abstract

This study aimed to identify the reinforcement and punishment strategies used by female teachers of the first three grades in basic education in the city of Misrata, as well as the most commonly used methods among them. The research sample included 230 teachers, representing approximately 13% of the study population. The findings revealed that the most frequently used punishment techniques were: contacting the student’s guardian, privately reprimanding the student, referring the student to school administration, verbal reprimands, and isolating the student at the back of the class. In contrast, the most common reinforcement strategies were: smiling at the student for good behavior, group applause, showcasing high grades, awarding points for desirable behavior, and providing symbolic rewards. The study is grounded in applied psychology, where behavior modification involves systematic use of reinforcement and punishment to shape desired behaviors within the educational environment.
