Editorial and Peer Review Process
Introduction
All manuscripts submitted to the Journal of the Faculty of Arts – University of Misurata undergo an editorial assessment and peer review process to ensure that published articles meet the journal's academic, ethical, and editorial standards.
The editorial process is designed to be fair, objective, confidential, and transparent.
Initial Editorial Screening
Following submission through the journal's Open Journal Systems (OJS), each manuscript undergoes an initial editorial screening to verify that it:
- Falls within the journal's aims and scope.
- Complies with the journal's submission requirements.
- Includes all required files and metadata.
- Is suitable for further editorial consideration.
Manuscripts that do not satisfy these basic requirements may be returned to the authors for correction before entering peer review or may be declined at this stage.
Similarity Check
All submitted manuscripts are screened using plagiarism detection software before being sent for peer review.
The similarity assessment supports the editorial evaluation of originality and proper citation practices. The editorial team considers the nature and source of any matching text rather than relying solely on similarity percentages.
Further information is available in the journal's Similarity Policy and Plagiarism Policy.
Peer Review
Manuscripts that successfully pass the initial editorial assessment are assigned for peer review by qualified experts in the relevant field.
The journal follows the peer review procedures described in its Peer Review Policy, which explains the review model, reviewer responsibilities, confidentiality, and ethical standards.
Management of Editorial Conflicts of Interest
Where a submitted manuscript is authored or co-authored by the Editor-in-Chief or a member of the Editorial Board, the journal applies the procedures set out in its Conflict of Interest Policy to ensure an independent, impartial, confidential, and transparent editorial process.
Editorial Decisions
Based on the reviewers' reports and the editorial evaluation, the Editorial Board may reach one of the following decisions:
- Accept the manuscript.
- Accept subject to minor revisions.
- Accept subject to major revisions.
- Reject the manuscript.
The Editor-in-Chief or the Editorial Board makes the final publication decision, except where alternative editorial arrangements are required under the journal's Conflict of Interest Policy.
Revision Process
When revisions are requested, authors should submit a revised manuscript together with a clear response addressing the reviewers' and editors' comments.
Revised manuscripts may be returned to the original reviewers or evaluated by the Editorial Board before a final decision is made.
Acceptance for Publication
A manuscript is formally accepted only after it has successfully completed the editorial and peer review process and all required revisions have been satisfactorily addressed.
Accepted manuscripts proceed to copyediting, layout editing, proofreading, and final publication preparation.
Rolling Publication
The journal follows a Rolling Publication model. Accepted articles are published online as soon as they complete the editorial and production process, without waiting for the publication of the entire issue.
This approach enables the timely dissemination of research while maintaining the journal's publication schedule.
