Abstract

The aim of the current research was to investigate the role of the Faculty of Arts at Misrata University in promoting a culture of peace among its students. To achieve the research objective, a questionnaire consisting of 22 items was prepared and distributed to a sample of 187 students drawn from the original population in the departments of the Faculty of Arts at Misrata University. The validity and reliability of the questionnaire were confirmed by a committee of specialized reviewers. After distributing and collecting the questionnaires, they were coded, entered into a computer program, and analysed statistically using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). For data analysis, arithmetic means, standard deviations, Cronbach's alpha equation, and the t-test to determine the significance of differences between means were used. The results showed that the overall response in estimating the reality of the Faculty of Arts at Misrata University in promoting a culture of peace was of a medium degree. The results also indicated that there were no statistically significant differences at the significance level (α≤0.05) attributable to the gender variable in estimating the role of the Faculty of Arts at Misurata University in promoting a culture of peace among its students. In light of the research results, several recommendations were provided.
