Authorship and Author Contributions Policy
Faculty of Arts Journal – Misurata University
- General Principles
The Faculty of Arts Journal is committed to the principles of research integrity, transparency, and ethical scholarly publishing. The Journal follows internationally recognized publication ethics standards to ensure fair attribution of scholarly contributions and to prevent unethical authorship practices.
Authorship is both an academic credit and a responsibility. Therefore, only individuals who have made a genuine and substantial intellectual contribution to the research should be listed as authors.
- Authorship Eligibility Criteria
An author is any individual who has made a substantial intellectual or scholarly contribution to the research and has approved the final version of the manuscript submitted for publication.
Authorship eligibility is determined by the significance and scholarly impact of the contribution rather than by the number of tasks or roles performed.
Scholarly contributions qualifying for authorship may include one or more of the following:
- Research conceptualization and formulation of the research problem.
- Methodology development or study design.
- Collection of data, documents, sources, or research materials.
- Data analysis and interpretation of findings.
- Literature review or development of the theoretical framework.
- Drafting the original manuscript.
- Critical review, revision, and intellectual editing of the manuscript.
- Direct academic supervision of the research.
- Funding acquisition or project administration, provided that such activities are accompanied by a direct scholarly contribution to the research.
All authors must approve the final version of the manuscript and accept responsibility for the integrity and accuracy of their contributions.
- Contributions That Do Not Qualify for Authorship
The following activities alone do not justify authorship:
- Language editing, proofreading, or stylistic revision.
- Translation services only.
- Technical formatting or manuscript preparation.
- Data entry, transcription, or clerical assistance.
- Administrative or logistical support.
- Financial support or funding acquisition without scholarly involvement.
- General administrative or institutional supervision.
- Providing references, documents, or research materials without direct scholarly participation.
- Technical assistance that does not involve intellectual contribution to the research.
Individuals who contribute in these ways may be acknowledged in the Acknowledgements section, subject to their consent.
- Order of Authors
The order of authors shall be determined by mutual agreement among all authors before manuscript submission.
The sequence of authors should reflect the relative scholarly contributions made to the research.
The Editorial Board shall not intervene in authorship order disputes except where ethical concerns or documented complaints arise.
- Corresponding Author
One author shall be designated as the Corresponding Author and shall be responsible for:
- Submitting the manuscript to the Journal.
- Communicating with the Editorial Office throughout the review and publication process.
- Ensuring that all authors have reviewed and approved the submitted manuscript.
- Verifying the accuracy of authorship information and author order.
- Acting on behalf of all authors regarding publication-related communications.
The role of Corresponding Author does not imply greater scholarly contribution or academic status than other authors.
- Author Contributions Disclosure
To promote transparency in scholarly publishing, authors are required to disclose their contributions to the manuscript.
Each author shall identify one or more of the following contribution categories:
- Research Conceptualization.
- Methodology and Study Design.
- Data or Source Collection.
- Data Analysis and Interpretation.
- Literature Review / Theoretical Framework.
- Original Draft Writing.
- Review and Editing.
- Academic Supervision.
- Funding Acquisition / Project Administration.
The Journal reserves the right to request clarification regarding authorship contributions whenever necessary.
- Changes in Authorship
Requests to add, remove, or reorder authors after manuscript submission must be submitted in writing and include the consent of all authors.
The Journal may request supporting documentation before approving any authorship changes.
No authorship modification shall be made after publication except in accordance with established correction procedures.
- Unethical Authorship Practices
The following practices constitute violations of publication ethics:
- Gift Authorship (listing individuals who have not made a substantial scholarly contribution).
- Guest or Honorary Authorship.
- Ghost Authorship (excluding individuals who have made substantial scholarly contributions).
- Misrepresentation of author contributions.
- Any form of authorship fraud or academic misconduct.
Such cases shall be handled in accordance with the Journal’s Publication Ethics and Research Integrity Policy.
- Author Declaration
By submitting a manuscript to the Faculty of Arts Journal, all authors declare that:
- Their reported contributions are genuine and accurately represented.
- The order of authors has been agreed upon by all contributors.
- All authors have reviewed and approved the final version of the manuscript.
- No individual who qualifies for authorship has been omitted from the list of authors.
- The manuscript complies with the Journal’s Publication Ethics and Research Integrity Policy.
The Journal reserves the right to investigate authorship-related concerns and to take appropriate action where violations are identified.
